About us
At JackfruitOrigins, we link European buyers to our trusted farming contacts and link the jackfruit to the world.
Even though we are young as a company, our team has a combined experience of 12 years in jackfruit research and trade, 20+ years in international trade and investment in the agricultural sector, and lived and worked over 15 years in emerging markets.
We have lots of jackfruit knowledge available and can bring you fast up to speed regarding its uses as a sustainable meat alternative and healthy vegan or vegetarian food ingredient.
Laura Smeets
Sales and marketing specialist
Laura is an entrepreneurial mind that worked over 10 years in various emerging markets, including Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Uganda, and Madagascar. She previously managed an impact investment fund that invested in over 40 agribusinesses in emerging markets. By supporting investee companies to gain access to the European market, she got connected to Hugo. Since then she devotes her time connecting food ingredient suppliers to agrifood buyers.
Hugo Lamers
Jackfruit expert and sourcing
Hugo lived and worked for 6 years in India. From 2009-2015 he worked on a research project that investigated the crop diversity and market potential of jackfruit among other native fruit trees in India, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. Working directly with farmers, researchers and companies that explored this wonderful fruit he investigated the added value and export options. Since then he worked closely with key exporters in India, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.
